late wisteria pruning HELP!

Postby suttonc01 » 04 Apr 2009 07:40

hello, i have a rampant wisteria growing up the back of my house: it is very well established but never really produced flowers, i suspect due to lack of pruning. i pruned lower branches (those that i can reach) last august but it definately needs the higher bits doing. as its now 4 april will i risk losing any flowers on the lower bits that i pruned if i now prune the higher branches? i'm worried if i leave til aug the house will be engulfed (but i really want a flower!) help!

Hello,

How much sun does the back of your house get? I suspect that the reason that the Wisteria has not flowered has something to do with available light and warmth.
By all means, keep the main framework and cut back all unwanted out of control shoots to withing 3-4 buds of their base.

Then, follow my guide about pruning Wisteria:
