pansies

Hi

I saved some pansy seeds from my summer growning pansies and I sowed them in a seed tray and placed them on the windowsill of a disused but sunny room a couple of months ago. They are doing great and have about 5 leaves on each little plant. I'm unsure as to what to do now......... Do I leave them where they are to grow bigger? or do I plant outside now before it gets too cold?

Also, does this mean that the plants are officially winter pansies as they are growing in winter time even though they started off as summer pansies?

Hi,

I think all pansy varieties available for purchase in garden centres are hardy whether you purchase plants or seeds. The two main differences between the vast number of different varieties is the flower colour and the time of year when the flowers are produced.

The seedlings that you have propagted from your summer flowering pansies will not necessarily flower at the same time of year. They will probably also have different coloured flowers. But I am sure they will be hardy. I would plant them outside now while it is still mild then wait and see when they flower and what colour they are.
