This herbaceous perennial has flowers that are produced before the leaves emerge. The flowers are white or pink, carried on tall flower stalks and are produced in mid-late spring. Darmera peltata has large, deep green, rounded leaves, each reaching a maximum diameter of 60cm. The leaves turn red in autumn. Darmera peltata spreads by underground rhizomes.
