clematis montana rubens WILTING NEED HELP PLEASE

Postby fagsy123 » 08 Oct 2009 16:21

hi there

i have a clematis montana rubens which i bought early this spring, it has been growing quite vigorously and has looked in good health through the summer. The problem is it has not flowered at all and just this week (first week in October)the leaves on the climer have begun to wilt.I have no reason why this has occured,is there any advice anyone could give as i am a relative novice when it comes to plants?

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I would expect this Clematis to flower next spring, could the wilting be due to the recent drought? Rain this week was the first for over a month in some areas in the country. It will drops leaves anyway for the winter, the important thing is the health of the buds in the leaf axils. I think it is hard to suggest at this stage what else to do as the plant will be soon be dormant for the winter.
Let me know how it is looking March/April time.
